Off Road Easter - Active Outdoors

Friday 3 April, 11am - 3pm

Get off-road this Easter and learn basic orienteering skills, navigate your way around the moors and after your energetic efforts, enjoy a chocolate reward!  Three routes to choose from- 2.2km, 3.8km, 5.7km.

Bridleway resurfacing - Muck In Day

Sunday 12 April, 10am - 12.30pm

Feeling energetic? There's a job for everyone form barrowing to raking, when we resurface bridleways on the moors. Help us to improve our paths, then come back another day and try them out on foot, bike or horse!

Meet at Barbrook Cottage, Big Moor (off the A621 Owler Bar to Baslow road).



Fell Running Taster Day - Active Outdoors

Friday 18 April

Join us for a fell running taster day and discover great places to run, get hints and tips on effective running techniques and then get out and have a go with our qualified instructors.  Whatever your age, there's something for everyone with a family friendly session in the morning and an adult session in the afternoon.

10am - 12pm family run (6+years). £3 per person.

2pm - 4pm adults and children 12+ years. £5 per person.

Join National Trust archaeologist Rachael Hall for a ramble in the Burbage Valley. Explore Carl Walk and Higger Tor and discover the history behind these unusual landscape features.

Sheffield Moors United - A celebration of the Sheffield Moors Partnership

Join experts from Sheffield Council, national trust, and the Eastern Moors for a guided walk around the Burbage Valley. Find out how our iconic moorland habitats are being restored across the landscape by the Sheffield Moors Partnership.

Bats above Froggatt Edge - Walk with Additives

Spend the evening wandering through Froggatt Edge woods, searching the skies for bats.  Use bat detectors to pick up their echo-location and have a go at our batty quiz.

Discover Moorland Plants - Walk & Wonder

Sunday 30 August, 10am - 1pm

In amongst the purple heather nestles a hidden a hidden world of moorland plants. Join us for a walk finding species such as sundews, bog asphodel and crowberry, developing your identification skills along the way.

Sunday 13 September, 10.30am - 3.30pm

Join us for a day of bog-bouncing, mini-beast safaris, wildlife spotting and mucky peat-based fun, with a shuttle bus on hand to hop between the Moorland Discovery Centre and Eastern Moors.

Climbing Taster Day - Active Outdoors

Always fancied yourself as a climber but don't know where to start, or want to brush up on your skills to take you to the next level?  Join one of our climbing taster sessions to benefit from expert tuition within a small group. Morning improvers session 9.30am - 12.30pm and afternoon beginners session1.30pm - 4.30pm session.

As fungi creeps back into the landscape this autumn, explore Clod Hall Moor around Birchen Edge, looking for fascinating fungi species with expert mycologist, Kevin Gilfedder.

Red Deer at Dusk - Walk with Additives

Thursday 8 October, 5pm - 7pm

As daylight prepares to leave the moors, join us for an atmospheric walk up onto White Edge, looking for red deer during their annual rut.

Red Deer Bolving Competition

Saturday 10 October, 5pm - 7.30pm

Join in or watch the entertaining annual Red Deer Bolving competition, where contestants mimic the bellowing of red deer stags to become the Eastern Moors Bolving Champion. Activities, displays, a walk to listen for the red deer and hot soup all included.

Rough Guide to Red Deer Ecology - Walk & Wonder

Thursday 15 October, 9.30am - 1.30pm

Join the Senior Warden for a walk, looking for red deer during their annual rut. Learn the basics of red deer ecology, explore the facts behind their habitat and find out how they contribute to the management of the moors.

Join us for a wander over White Edge seeking out red deer. Find out how to age a stag, what happens to their antlers when the fighting is over and who will get the girl!

Discover Edible Fungi - Discovery Workshop

Saturday 31 October, 10am - 3pm

Avoid a dinner disaster by discovering the do's and don'ts of eating fungi with expert mycologist Kevin Gilfedder, during a combination of indoor tutoring and outdoor practical. You may even gather a few tasty treats of your own to take home for tea.
